Friday 16th August 2024 was a day of joyous celebration as De Heus Uganda opened its first solely aqua feeds shop in Jinja. It was a lively and colorful event that caught the interest of the people of Jinja town. The event was attended by over 40 people including De Heus clients and staff, various dignitaries including the Dutch Ambassador to Uganda Frederieke Quispel, the agricultural attaché Frank Buizer, the Deputy Mayor of Jinja City Ms Kawuuma Fazirah and the Regional CID Officer of Jinja.

There were speeches from the Dutch Ambassador, The Deputy Mayor, The Regional CID Officer of Jinja and our Managing Director Bon Tjeenk Willink who highlighted the importance of aquaculture in the East African region and gave an update on the construction of the Aqua feed plant in Njeru that is expected to produce 50,000 tonnes of feed annually. These speeches were followed by the cutting of the ribbon to officially open the shop. We then had our first official sale to our esteemed client Nalongo Topister Butanakya. Attendees then had a brief tour of shop and after were transported to Source of the Nile Hotel for lunch.

The atmosphere at the hotel was happy and lively as fish farmers and staff interacted freely and took many photos to commemorate the day.  We were then treated to a sumptuous lunch that featured an array of local dishes leaving everyone satisfied. Our MD Bon Tjeenk Willink alongside our valued customer Dorothy cut and served the cake to the attendees and finally the ceremony was closed with giving out of De Heus gift bags to the attendees.

Clients that attended the event were excited about the ease of access to the fish feeds now that De Heus is close to their farms. They were confident that this new shop will positively support their businesses as it will be even more easy to access the feeds they need to grow their fish. We plan to work hand in hand with local fishing communities in Jinja and will soon be organising an aqua culture training.

The shop opening was also followed online via eg Linked-in and we thank our current and new followers for their interest and support and of course invite them to come and pay a personal visit to the shop.

Hellen, the shop keeper in Jinja was excited to see new faces coming in after the shop opening and she is optimistic about future sales. Her experience with the shop opening campaign has been thrilling with clients expressing their gratitude for the De Heus gift bags they received.

De Heus is now in Jinja to create better access to fish feeds for farmers in Jinja and neighbouring areas like: Iganga, Mbale, Kumi and Bugiri. We encourage all fish farmers to come to Jinja on Main Street next to Bata and buy our feed that is optimised to meet your fish’s needs at every growth stage.

We would like to thank the Jinja community, our customers and our staff for their support in making the new shop opening a success.
