We were privileged to attend this year's Harvest Money Expo, organized by Vision Group, and what an event it was! It took place from February 14th to 16th, 2025, at Namboole Stadium under the theme "Farming as a Business." We attended this expo alongside our sister company Koudijs Uganda and our sole distributor for aqua feed in Uganda; Kaffiika Animal Feed.
The three-day event saw an influx of already existing and potential fish farmers who were highly enthusiastic and had exciting questions about how to start a fish farm, how to run their fish farms efficiently, how to manage water quality, where to get good quality fingerlings, and how much fingerlings to put in their ponds, also known as stocking density.
Engaging with stall visitors and industry stakeholders
We had our fish farming and fish feed experts available to answer all questions concerning fish feed. Insights were shared on how much feed to give fish daily, when to transition fish to the next pellet size, how to calculate the feed conversion ratio (FCR), the different feeding habits of catfish and tilapia, and strategies to manage feed costs for maximum profitability. Discussions also covered the importance of proper feeding schedules and record keeping on the fish farm. Fish farmers had the opportunity to consult directly with our specialists, gaining practical advice on improving their farms' efficiency.
We also interacted with various aquaculture stakeholders who share our interest of supporting and growing the East African aquaculture sector. These interactions will foster future collaborations that will drive the sector forward.

Training session on water quality and fish farm management
We had a private, targeted session on the final day of the expo where our fish farming expert, Ivan Ssabwe presented on water quality and fish farm management. The session was highly attended, and there was a palpable eagerness for fish farming knowledge in the room. Many of the attendees were looking to start fish farming, and they were introduced to the various types of commercial fish farming and where to get the resources needed to start their fish farming journey.
Demonstration videos provided hands-on learning experiences, showcasing essential fish farming techniques, pond preparation, and stocking density. Water quality management was another focal point, with Ivan emphasizing the role of pH balance and waste control in maintaining a healthy aquatic environment.

Looking ahead: Growth and development in East Africa's aquaculture sector

As fish farming continues to grow, events like this play a pivotal role in equipping farmers with the greatly needed knowledge and resources. The success of this year’s expo reaffirms the industry's commitment to innovation, efficiency, and environmental responsibility.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who visited our stall and attended the aqua training at the Harvest Money Expo. Your enthusiasm and interest in the aquaculture sector inspire us to keep pushing the boundaries of innovation in fish farming. We truly appreciate the engaging conversations, insightful questions, and the opportunity to share with you.
In line with our commitment to supporting the East African aquaculture industry, we are making great strides in the construction of our state-of-the-art feed factory in Jinja, Njeru. This facility will soon provide high-quality, nutritious fish feed, making high-quality feed more accessible to fish farmers. We appreciate your continued support and look forward to sharing more updates as we move closer to completion!
